High-Performance Digitizers for Advanced Scientific Research
Keysight Technologies and Guzik Test and Measurement
Meet the testing challenges of advanced scientific research with high channel count, high data throughput AXIe digitizers
Applied physics research laboratories working in areas such as high energy particle accelerators, radar, light and satellite communications, RF/microwave and astrophysics face challenging scientific environments that demand innovative test and measurement solutions. These large scale research applications require many measurement channels with high density and good scalability, high-speed instrumentation, accurate synchronization between test modules, deep memory, powerful processing and very high throughput data transfers.
AXIe based measurement systems using modules from Keysight Technologies and Guzik Test and Measurement can address these needs. AdvancedTCA Extensions for Instrumentation and Test (AXIe) is an open modular instrumentation standard for high performance applications. Keysight is a founder member of the consortium that created the standard and provides a range of AXIe chassis and modules. Guzik utilizes custom analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) from Keysight in its ADC 6000 Series of advanced, high performance AXIe digitizers.
The Guzik ADC 6000 Series of digitizers can be configured with various channel and speed combinations such as: 4 channels of 10 GSa/s, 2 channels of 20 GSa/s, or a single channel at 40 GSa/s. The different configurations may be combined together in the same chassis allowing you to scale the channel count to meet your exact needs. Using the Guzik digitizers, up to 20 channels can be accommodated in a single 5-slot AXIe chassis.
AXIe supports very high-speed data transfer. In the case of the Guzik digitizers, this means real-time data streaming to PC via PCIe Gen2 at up to 1.6 GB/s and at up to 40 GB/s between adjacent modules. High data rates are critical for capturing a short duration event in a long time window. The digitizers deliver 8 bits of resolution and provide 64 GB of memory on each module allowing you to capture very long data streams. Since the Guzik modules allow sharing of memory across modules up to 320 GB of memory is available for any channel in a 5 slot mainframe.
High-Performance Digitizers for Advanced Scientific Research
For real-time processing of the data four customizable FPGAs are provided on each module for up to 10 GSa/s signal processing. FPGA algorithms can be downloaded onto the modules for real-time signal processing or event detection. With the Guzik digitizers every module added to the chassis increases the aggregate processing power of the system, which is shared using the AXIe local bus architecture. The onboard FPGAs enable high quality digital triggering. An external reference signal is used to guarantee synchronous acquisitions between modules within the chassis. In this way multiple digitizers can acquire multiple waveforms synchronously.
The Guzik ADC 6000 digitizers can be configured into a complete measurement solution by combining them with Keysight’s M9502A 2 slot or M9505A 5 slot AXIe chassis, M8190A arbitrary waveform generator, M9703A digitizer(s) and the M9536A embedded controller.
